What Is Peptic Ulcers?

Peptic ulcers is a term coined to describe ulcerations of the gastroduodenal tract. The most common ones are gastric ulcers that occur on the stomach walls. Those found in the duodenum are reffered to as duodenal ulcers. Well they are all located on the gastrointestinal tract and form part of the peptic ulcer terminology.

Symptoms of Peptic Ulcers

The common symptoms of Peptic ulcers may include:

  • Gas and bloating
  • Weight loss
  • Nausea and vomiting
  • Loss of appetite
  • Heartburn
  • Fatigue
  • Dull pain in the stomach
  • Blood in vomit
  • Feeling fullness
  • Pain in the stomach when eating

Causes of Peptic Ulcers

Some of the suspected causes include:

  • H. Pylori
  • NSAIDS (Non steroidal Anti-inflammatory Drugs) e.g. diclofenac, ibuprofen etc.
  • Genetics
  • Smoking
  • Histamine
  • Dietary factors
  • Stress
  • Certain medications

Well, times have changed. New scientific evidence has revealed that milk may actually be a double edged sword in ulcer healing. When drank it coats and protects the stomach protective mucosal membrane. However over time it promotes an excessive secretion of the hormone gastrin that triggers the release of more acid and digestive juices. This effect therefore counters it’s original beneficial one. In fact the beneficial effects may last for about twenty minutes. Therefore as pain comes back you are again prompted to go for more milk again. It becomes a rat race like action. The ulcers are not healed.

A Word From PentaGlax Healthy

Peptic ulcers may be prevented, halted or even be reversed through addressing the root cause. We can see that there are many different causes either singly or in combination. Therefore we cannot have a one cure it all formulation. Do not compare your peptic ulcers to another persons. What may work for you may not work for another individual if your root causes aren’t the same. About 80% of peptic ulcers may heal with appropriate root cause management for at least 8 weeks minimum.
