
High blood pressure is a condition that exists when one or both of these conditions exists:
- A systolic pressure reading exceeds 140mmHg
- A diastolic pressure reading that exceeds 90mmHg
The systolic reading is the measurement of arterial wall pressure when the heart pumps the blood. Diastolic pressure reading is the arterial wall pressure when the heart relaxes.
High blood pressure is also sometimes referred to as hypertension. It is referred to as a silent killer. In other words one may not realise it’s presence but it is silently causing damage within the cardiovascular system and other body organs.

We are told that we are what we eat. This statement should not be taken lightly when it comes to health matters. Disease or health may be outcomes of eating. Food may also be used wrongly and produce disease. Processed and refined foods promote the production of excessive cholesterol. This is then deposited in the arteries leading to their narrowing or arteriosclerosis. This is the beginning of lifestyle diseases promotion e.g. high blood pressure, cardiac problems, stroke, obesity, arthritis etc. Due to being nutritionally deficient they promote chronic subclinical malnutrition.
The food that we eat is digested in the stomach and absorbed in the small intestines. The quality of digestion will impact the quality of absorption including the health benefits. Now, whole foods come packaged with plenty of nutrients to help in both the digestive and absorption processes. The refined and processed foods have been deprived of this whole package including fiber. Fiber helps in lowering the cholesterol levels in the body and hence helps fight preventable lifestyle diseases. The digestive system utilises a lot of energy trying to work on these unnatural foods.

Intermittent fasting basically means a period of not eating and resting the digestive tract. Only liquids e.g. natural juices and water may be consumed.
